Michael Grumley's book "Breakthrough" was a home run but he completely knocks it out of the park with "Amid the Shadows!"Sarah Baxter's mother is violently murdered but the forces of evil are really after Sarah. She has a supernatural gift that a very powerful person wants to extinguish. She ends up in the care of social worker Christine Rose who has her own set of issues. Sarah and Christine find themselves in a terrifying conspiracy that has the fate of the world in the balance. It is imperative that Sarah live but Christine can barely take care of herself. Sarah and Christine find there is someone very special looking out for them.From the very first few pages, I was completely drawn into the story and could not put the book down. This is one book I will definitely read several times. The characters are very well developed and the plot will keep you guessing all the way to the end. Just when you think you got it figured out, the story takes a very quick turn or another twist is added. This book is full of great characters and adrenaline laced action. Michael leans on his IT background. The history and science are well researched. This is an author you will want to keep an eye on. If "Amid the Shadows" is an indicator, Michael Grumley will be providing us with more great reads!

Another winner from Michael Grumley By Jay and Robin Another excellent read from Michael Grumley - the kind that you keep next to you on your morning commute so that you can read another few sentences at each red light (yes, I really did).The storyline is both imaginative and gripping. You start out needing a bit of a willing suspension of disbelief at the premise but the adrenalin-filled plot and the richly drawn characters quickly have you forgetting any thoughts of unreality and reading faster and faster to see what comes next, and in that Grumley definitely does not disappoint.I admit I was a bit leery of this one at first after reading a few reviews talking about the "religious" plot, but having read it can say with confidence that this is a storyline that will appeal to those who are uninterested in religious themes as well. The religious, or rather faith-based, theme informs the story in a Dan Brown type style, it's not heavy-handed and doesn't preach or convey any kind of missionary agenda.Now the only question which remains is when is Grumley's next book coming out?

I've read Mr. Grumley's previous book, Breakthrough, which was excellent and he has produced another of the same caliber. Who would think to use 'soldiers' sent by God to battle the evil of the world and inject them into a high paced thriller. There is tension, nail biting suspense and a horrible fear that nothing is going to happen in time to save the devastation of the planet. In the centre of all of this is a little girl with enormous powers which she takes for granted but poses a threat to the power of the man who has set all of the deadly plot in motion. He holds an almost unassailable position within the US government so has free reign to carry out his evil mission and he has many people to do his bidding together with a brilliant cyber hacker in his employ who will place a stranglehold on the world's computers. This is terrorism which is dangerously powerful. Be prepared to be frightened at the possibility of something so deadly happening.

So I picked up this summary and analysis books and was surprised at some of the little things that I missed. Each section was clearly laid out and easy to read, something that I have come to expect from summary and analysis books.

The sections -- summary, character list, and analysis -- are laid out well and easy to read. I especially appreciated the list of characters. It was an extremely helpful guide to keep handy while I read the original book. I enjoy reading period novels but sometimes I get overwhelmed with the details. Book three and book two read like a continuation of one into the other. I’m thinking that book four will as well, because there were open story lines, hints at the future, etc., at the end of this book. I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of something being in the blurb that is mentioned several times in the book, but is never explained. I’m talking about the darn owls! That said, I won’t mention them again. This book is a little more convoluted that the previous ones, having two strong stories running through, with sub-plots.Hunter Moon and The Red Wolf picks up immediately after The Bear, The Witch and The Web. Our focus has moved on to Janos, who has taken over as the Witch of the Wood and is running the goat farm that Flora May left to her nephew Max and a conservatorship protecting it forever.The road for the new Witch of the Wood isn’t smooth though. It feels like the Wiccan Circle that Flora May had is falling apart. No one wants to come to the farm for Samhain, except for the youngest member of the circle, Stone. When Stone comes and he and Janos drink the tea, it turns out much more intense than expected.To make matters more complicated, something is up with the dragons. A huge storm is affecting the entire eastern seaboard of the US. Did the dragons cause it? What is up with the wolf shifters we’re introduced to? Do they have anything to do with the strange man that Stone had a conversation with while he was under the influence of the blue tea?I want to keep it real and say there were quite a few misspellings / incorrect word usage issues in this installment. Particularly at one spot in the book when there seemed to be several within just a few sentences. These should have been caught in editing. Unfortunately it is going to cause a slightly lower score than I would have awarded the book.I liked the book and recommend it. Do yourself a favor and read it as a series. Start with the short story, then read the books in order. You will need the short story to understand the dragon section in this book. Minor spelling/word use issues aside, I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

The only reason this got 4 stars was I felt the writing was choppy and somewhat rushed. I had a hard time following in some places because there was so much information being shared but all in all it was still an excellent read.

By A Customer Gervaise's father wishes that his son will grow up to be a Knight of the White Cross, and so Gervaise leaves his dying mother and travels to Rhodes. When he arrives at Rhodes he never dreams of all the adventures he will be undertaking, and the excitement he will be involved in. First comes the rescuing of Ricord and Santoval, after which the Grand Prior knights Gervaise and his comrade, Ralph, which is a great privilege for the boys. Some time later, after visiting the house of Signor Vsados, Gervaise mentions to Ralph that he did not like the looks of the Greek who had also been at the Vsados household. Ralph laughs at him, but Gervaise's suspicions are aroused even more when he sees the man talking to a slave of the Order. After reporting to Sir John Kendall Gervaise suggests he disguise himself and go among the slaves, to try to find out if a plot is being arranged. What will he find? Gervaise has many more adventures, and also a little romance, for Claudia De Forli bestows her colours on him. Gervaise also sets an example by the boy-galley that he was put in command of. It is the only galley ever to have only young knights appointed to it. In the end Gervaise takes part in the Siege of Rhodes, which was a bloody affair. Don't miss reading this story of a gallant Knight of the White Cross!

Young Gervaise Tresham is sent from his war torn homeland by his father to join the Knights of St. John. Initially, this order was a semi-religious organization with its members taking vows of obedience, chastity, and poverty for the purpose of ministering to pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. With more incidents of pilgrims being attacked, robbed, and enslaved by the Moslems, the Hospitallers quickly changed, out of necessity, to a great military organization.Proceeding to the stronghold of Rhodes, Gervaise is eventually appointed commander of a war galley. The war galleys of the Knights of St. John patrolled the Mediterranean which was infested by Moorish corsair pirates.Tons of adventure, fast paced story tellign and great attention to historical detal make this yet another great Henty read.

One will feel that they are there, fighting the corsairs or seeing the great fortresses at Rhodes. The scenes are vividly described, and the whole story is incredibly exciting. Gervaise is the ideal knight - strong, brave, loyal, and willing to give his life for Christendom. One feels like they know him in real life, so vividly is he described. The Turks can be pictured ad well, with their huge cannons and keen scimitars. The adventures of Gervaise are very perilous, and sometimes it seems there is no way out. Yet, there is a way, and he always finds it somehow or other. His exploits are phenomenal. He does everything from defending the fort of Rhodes to impersonating a Turkish prisoner, all in the name of the order. There are a few words in the story that most middle school students wouldn't know, but these don't interfere much with understanding the story as a whole. There is some violence in this book, but nothing else that would be considered repulsive. This book is a great read for anyone who likes action, adventure, history, or the Middle Ages. I give it an A.

His pre-Internet village as if from another century. Didn't speak English, never been on a plane, never heard of Babe Ruth. He came from nothing and ended up on the mountaintop. And the great thing is that after reading this book you know he's just what he seems, a special man. A generous spirit. Kind. But more too, perceptive and wise. He's quiet, but it surprised me how tough he is. Read the Cano stuff. Mariano Rivera, the ultimate modern Yankee. What a story. I received it as a gift. Perfect for this Yankee fan.

No Game Greater than Baseball By BookBob This book covers a man's journey from hardship, toil and heartbreak on a small fishing boat in Panama to rising as a star pitcher with an infamous team in the Major Leagues. It reminds me why I love the game so much. A game where anyone - no matter their back ground in life can demonstrate greatest . It is another story of America and it's favorite game: A tale of a kind hearted, religious, and humble man's rise to greatest. Rivera was signed by the Yankees at age 20 when he was discovered playing on local teams in Panama. He developed and rose to invent a pitch known as the "cutter" - almost impossible to hit. His talent carried him to a long and successful career. Some may believe this book to be "sugar coated" (not typical of the scandalous books of today), but I found it to be refreshing, and it has sparked my interest in baseball this season. A story of a simple man's opportunity to rise to unbelievable heights - a story only found in America.
