Coriolanus is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1605 and 1608. The play is based on the life of the legendary Roman leader Caius Marcius Coriolanus. The tragedy is numbered as one of the last two tragedies written by Shakespeare along with Antony and Cleopatra. Coriolanus is the name given to a Roman general after his more than adequate military success against various uprisings challenging the government of Rome. Following this success, Coriolanus becomes active in politics and seeks political leadership. His temperament is unsuited for popular leadership and he is quickly deposed, whereupon he aligns himself to set matters straight according to his own will. The alliances he forges to accomplish his own will result in his ultimate downfall and death.

Review

"Great introduction - strong on political context and topicality, and great treatment of the new Fiennes movie adaptation. The best modern edition of Coriolanus on the market." - Matthew Woodcock, University of East Anglia, UK

"This is a mighty powerhouse of a work: passionately outward-looking in its engagement with the play's afterlife in theatre, poetry and film ... Holland's style is delightfully engaging and inclusive ... This is a remarkable piece of scholarship, and an indispensable work for anyone wishing to understand Coriolanus better." - Jane Kingsley-Smith, Roehampton University, UK, Around the Globe

Shakespeare's Greatest By psychephile Shakespeare's last and greatest tragedy, *Coriolanus* dramatizes the conflict between pride and envy--those two antagonists which were the favorite characters of ancient myth.Coriolanus is a man of Virtue, when virtue meant 'manliness' not 'modest chastity.' Above all, he had the virtue of pursuing virtue, which he refused to compromise and which he refused to hide. In contrast, the aristocracy and the mob whom they serve despised Coriolanus precisely because he was good and refused to be otherwise.*Coriolanus* is Shakespeare at the height of his powers, and the real tragedy is that this work is not better known.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A DIFFICULT PLAY BUT VERY RELEVANT TO OUR TIME By LAURA Perhaps (?) not among the best known of Shakespeare's works, this play partakes of his ironic and tragic celebration of Roman ideals, namely, "laus", "gloria", "virtus" in particular. The aristocracy of Coriolanus' Rome "appears" dedicated to high-sounding and noble ends - Roman: honour, bravery, valour, proper governance. The governance is presented as "organic" and therefore just. Pleasure is significantly absent from this universe. Continuation as concept and even mere consequences - are best left out of sight. The character of Volumnia devalues what would be "feminine" ends in the language and imagery "she" uses, a deathly and mechanistic language used to describe her son. Marilyn French has seen similarities between Coriolanus-the-character and another notorious misanthrope, Timon of Athens: the search for honor, fame and the attempt to act according to socially accepted rules moves on to a quest for self-exaltation. Without firm rooting in the community - yet while using this very community - there is only the self, and the self cannot provide its own end. One editor having noted that the adjective "alone" occurs more often in Coriolanus than in any other play by Shakespeare, the isolation the eponymous character finds himself in is typical, as it were, of an opposition found between those heroes embodying the "chivalric" as opposed to the "heroic" or "Herculean" ideal (Antony, Coriolanus, Achilles in Troilus and Cressida.) But Hercules is a demi-god: the characters are not; punishment of hubris - Coriolanus' bravery leads to extreme arrogance, as he sets himself above all men - means banishment, isolation, and death.

Shakespeare Meets Ayn Rand By Bill Slocum Any Shakespeare play that leaves people with totally different interpretations regarding the nature of the lead character can't be all bad. That said, "Coriolanus" suffers from its ambiguity. The first time I read it was in college. My kindly professor laid out the case for seeing Coriolanus as a kind of fascist strongman brought down by his contempt for the people, and I went away comforted in my small-L liberalism. This time, however, reading it on my own, it was hard not to see Coriolanus as something else entirely, a deserving elitist brought down by an envious, parasitic mobocracy who couldn't bear to see him succeed. In short, John Galt in a toga.A more disturbing realization with this second reading was that as a play, "Coriolanus" doesn't hold together. It's considered likely to be Shakespeare's last tragedy, written in 1608-09, but lacks for the vitality or singular inspiration you expect from the seasoned tragedian of "MacBeth" or "King Lear."It has a fantastic first act as I read it, brimming with great dialogue, highly charged scenes, and a well-extended battle sequence. Act I also sets up the core issue of the rest of the play. "He that trusts to you,/Where he should find you lions, finds you hares/Where foxes, geese," is how the bold patrician Marcius puts it to the rabble rousers at the play's start. "He that depends/Upon your favors swims on fins of lead/And hews down oaks with rushes."Marcius will later be renamed Coriolanus, after conquering the city Corioles. Rome proves more of a problem, where he's rejected by an easily-led and ungrateful mob. They have a point about Marcius' coldness when it comes to their need for corn, but he's not a dangerous character. Yes, he's more than a trifle haughty and dominated by a glory-hungry mother with vicious tendencies, but he is no threat to their young republic. He prefers to fight and leave the power trappings to others. He even declines booty he took from an enemy city.Coriolanus being neither villain nor sympathetic hero is a problem with the play. So is the cast around him. There are two types of characters in "Coriolanus": his loyal but impotent patrician friends and the weaselly plebs who oppose him for largely obscure reasons. The characters lack depth, even Coriolanus's mother who goes from diabolic to dishwater in a few scenes. The last four acts mix affecting scenes and great lines with a very choppy storyline. Coriolanus is always turning on a dime. Coriolanus vows not to wear humble robes in order to appeal to public favor, then does. He promises not to lose his temper in a key moment, and then does anyway with gusto. He tells his mother to go away one moment, and the next kneels before her. Coriolanus famously offers fewer soliloquies than any of Shakespeare's tragic heroes, perhaps because he doesn't have an inner self worth knowing.I liked this play more as a Shakespeare buff. It's the flip side of his "Richard II." Richard II fatally overplays his sense of divine right as his subjects prove better than he deserves. Here, the title character is deserving but undone by common men who act in uniformly baser ways. The yin-yang idea of noblesse oblige in Shakespeare's day seems on display in these plays when considered together, presenting a kind of cultural bubble level that tilts depending on the angle of the viewer. On its own, "Coriolanus" is occasionally gripping but ultimately frustrating reading, in need of an inspired director with a properly skewed take to give it the cohesion on stage it lacks on the page.

From Publishers Weekly The young virgin Cerilla has been brought to the Sacred Isle as consortfor one hourof the Summer King Arlen before he is to be gruesomely sacrificed in the Winter-King ritual. Trying to escape, Cerilla meets Arlen and they fall in love. Arlen's companion Lonn offers to trick the priestesses and take Arlen's place, allowing the lovers to flee. Lonn's gift has its price, however, as his spirit follows the runaways through harsh and fantastic lands to the home they establish beyond the Mountains of Mystery. When Lonn, in the shape of Cerilla's new baby, announces he will claim her as his own bride, Cerilla consults the Oracle and abandons the babe. Later, she risks Arlen's love and tracks the baby to the Afterworld, braving the Goddess's wrath but eventually earning her protection. Springer, author of Wings of Flame and other fantasies, writes with depth and subtlety; her characters have failings as well as strengths, and the topography is as vivid as are lands of dreams and nightmares. Cerilla is a worthy heroine, her story richly mythic. Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very Nice Read By Garnet This is a fantasy swords and magick sort of story set in a world that seems almost vaguely familiar...but not quite. It has a lot of pagan overtones, so should appeal to a pagan readship.Cerilla is a virgin destined to wed the king-sacrifice and bear a child. Once they are together, he is due to be horribly sacrificed and she will join a crew of white-robed women who were all once with their own king-sacrifice, but now are evermore sworn to be with none. Understandably, many of them are kind of bitter about that. However, Cerilla's story breaks the ancient pattern as she meets and falls in love with Arlen, the chosen one, only to have Lonn, Arlen's friend, step into his place so that they can escape their fate and be together. The rest of the book is the consequences of this action, both good and bad, as Arlen and Cerilla (now called by the endearment of "Rae") make good their escape and undergo much hardship along the way, both aided and haunted by an unseen presence. Also along the way, the two actually get to really know each other and a truer love blossoms, one that results in a child. Which is where the real problem begins...This world is beautifully drawn, both with its wonders (such as horses that can run on water and great snakes living beneath the earth) and with its horrors, such as Cerilla's nasty father and the details of the ritual sacrifices of the Sacred Isle.Well written and poetic, I'd recommend this book...but not really for kids. The themes and some of the graphic descriptions might be just a bit too much for some.

By Stephanie I remember first checking this book out of the library when I was a teenager, and in need of beauty and truth. This book delivered. In this love story about star-crossed lovers and magic is a heap of beauty and truth. Nancy Springer wrote a tale about a girl named Cerilla and her lover, Arlen, and made it more than a love story. It's a story about the bonds of friendship, the tie of gratitude, the magic of a religion, and the power of forgiveness and acceptance. I can't recommend this book enough. If only it were in an ebook format.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. this is a good book. A really By Caitlin Irvine There's something really special about reading a book set in the environment in which you grew up. There's something even more special when the author can turn that environment into Auckland on steroids - a parallel universe, wholly recognizable yet full of a kind of magical whimsy reminiscent of a modern-day Narnia. I found myself walking through Auckland's streets, picturing them as if they were plucked from the pages of Shadows.Location aside, this is one seriously compelling read. I'm not a big fantasy reader - far from it. Shadows however, had me hooked from page 1. Author Sam Blood's vivid descriptions and effective balancing between reality/the Shadow realm made it hard to put the book down. The sense of mystery throughout also led me to read 5 chapters in one sitting one day. I just had to find out what the deal was with Griffin's mother!I won't give too much away - but seriously, this is a good book. A really, seriously good book. I got my flatmates into it also. Highly recommended, will probably read again.

By Jason Conran Reading Shadows is like looking at your reflection in the Magic Mirror Gate in The Neverending Story: what you find within may not be everything that you've ever wanted or anything like you expected, but it's true, and that truth will confront you to the depths of your being in ways that, even if you are not ready for them, you still need to face. I have to be honest and say that there were aspects of the story that I wasn't so hot on, but I also enjoyed this story a lot and don't really want to dwell on negatives.None of it took away from the immense depth and power of this story because, like all the best stories, at its core it is mythically simple. This is a tale of love, loss, longing, and how these forces both transform us against our will, sometimes into someone far darker than we are prepared to accept we are capable of being, while also giving us the opportunity to forge ourselves anew, in ways we never dreamt possible. Do not be deceived: this story is very dark, but the kind of darkness that leads you through to the light of catharsis if you stick with it. It is a journey, and one that I highly recommend you take.Throw in a generous helping of simultaneously sharp and dorky humour, a breakneck pace that, while it could have lingered in some places a little longer, ultimately builds an avalanche of momentum that will grip you from start to finish, a well-realised protagonist who manages to keep not only your sympathy but empathy through even his most unlikeable moments, a vivid supporting cast that I only wish I could have spent a little more time with, and the most sincere and heartfelt storytelling I have come across in a very long time, and I mean it when I say that I absolutely cannot wait for the rest of the series. Consider me a fan.(Also, as somebody who has their own 14-years-in-the-making book still waiting to be published, it's pretty inspiring to know somebody who's actually turned their dream into a reality!)

An orphan raised by his brother, Griffin always felt alone until one day when he accidentally falls through a portal into a parallel world full of monsters known as ‘Shadows’. Griffin meets Cirrus, a crazy parrot-dragon creature who has been waiting for him. Together, they are trapped on an adventure trying to escape from the Empire in a world full of magic and deception where they have to fight their way to the truth. This novel is aimed at teenagers, but could also be enjoyed by an older audience. It uses words like ‘fudge’ instead of swearing, and the dialogue is written in the way that teenagers actually speak. The battle scenes are descriptive, but not overly graphic. It is written in first person, present tense, which gives the reader the feeling that the action is occurring in real-time. The writing is generally light-hearted and funny, but there are some serious parts and moments that hurt your heart.Once I started Shadows, I found it very difficult to put it down. Every chapter seemed to end on a cliff-hanger and left me wanting to read another to find out more about the past and see what happens in the present. I found that I could really relate to some of the characters and they seemed like real people. Griffin is not perfect, and that is something I liked. Often heroes are too perfect and not believable, but Griffin was both flawed and likeable.Shadows takes place in Auckland, New Zealand, with familiar landmarks and landscapes. Even the parallel world that Griffin ends up in has creatures and elements that are reminiscent of New Zealand. The concept of Shadows is similar to the daemons in the Golden Compass, but entirely different. It is set in 2015 and has references to modern society such as Google and YouTube, which makes it feel like this story is actually happening. Two major themes in this novel are feeling alone and deeply loving a friend. The feeling of loneliness is the kind that comes from longing for someone, but without knowing who you are really missing. Most people can relate to this feeling, even though no one knows the origin. In the world created in this novel, each person has a Shadow that alleviates this longing. This book also explores platonic love, while most novels that I have read only dealt with feelings of romantic love. Shadows is more focused on the type of love shared by best friends and I found this quite unique and really enjoyed watching the development of the friendship between Griffin and his Shadow. In the end, I was left wishing for two things: that I could find my own Shadow, and for the next book to be written.

Colby A very interesting reality-based, fictional account of life, love, and hate in a Mississippi river delta town through the eyes and heart of a young man who was there. I read it during lunch on three consecutive days, and the last lunch was quite extended as I could not put the book down. The dialog and the images that Jerry draws with his words, take you there and let you see/feel how it really was then.I have never been in Mississippi, but I have "lived, fallen in love, and fought" there in the 60s a few weeks ago, and since I started to read "Coahoma Street" again, I'll "go do it again" one more time. I almost never read a book twice, but this one is special. It is cheaper, more real, and far better, than a movie.Curl up with this good book this winter.

By charles bollenbaugh Coahoma Street is a wonderful book that captures the mind from the first page to the last. I can only hope on another novel by this author as his style is unique and very descriptive. It feels as if the story is going on around you. Please read this book if you haven't, you wont be sorry! I already know what my entire family is getting for Christmas this year.... their own copies of Coahoma Street!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. like going back home By Mercury Man "Coahoma Street" is a really neat novel. The story is entertaining and I had a hard time putting the book down once I started reading it.The setting for the story is Clarksdale, Mississippi, in 1967. (Clarksdale is called "Princeville" in the book.)"Coahoma Street" is an actual street in Clarksdale and Clarksdale's streets, alleys, and other physical landmarks are prominently mentioned throughout the book. The book, in my opinion, does a great job of capturing the essence of Clarksdale in 1967, especially the societal divisions that existed, while telling a story of inter-racial romance, along with greed, murder, incest, and homosexuality.I grew up in Clarksdale in the 1940's, so I found this book totally fascinating, but I think it would be an interesting read for anyone. However, if you have a Clarksdale or a Mississippi connection, it should really get your attention.I also think this story might make an interesting movie.

By Elizabeth Gillette This is the genealogy of all the whitcombs from the first Whitcomb that came to america and anyone can trace backwards from the last generation listed backwards. My grandfather was the last generation listed and our family documented from him forward. All the hard work tracing back was already done for me. What a great job was done. My grandfather had managed to get the book way back when it was first published and now apparently there is enough Whitcombs out there to have amazon willing to offer it online. Bought each of my children a copy of it so this information won't be lost to them either. I wish I had my mothers side documented for me like this. Lots of information about family members included.

When pared with ancestry.com, I was able to not only create a family tree, I was able to read informative and delightful stories about the Whitcombs in early America. Charlotte Whitcomb did a remarkable job compiling this book in the early 20th century and although the Whitcombs did their best to add to the population, this cannot be a best selling book! Knowing that, I thank Amazon.com for keeping it in print and available. If you are a Whitcomb or know a Whitcomb, I highly recommend that you purchase this book!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Top-Notch Western Adventure By wayne d. dundee THE TITHING HERD is an ambitious, exciting, multi-layered Western adventure. The title comes from the practice of cash-strapped Mormons, back in the middle and late 1800s, to gather up a herd of cattle to take to market in order to pay their annual tithe to the Church. At no cost to the momentum of the book, a number of historical Mormon facts such as this are interwoven into the plot and subplots, giving this tale some distinct “learning” aspects that are quite interesting. Make no mistake, however --- there is plenty of action and suspense to propel these facts and all else along at a rate that will keep the reader eagerly turning pages. At the core of everything is the character of Luther “Lute” Donnelly, a former lawman carrying around a pack of guilt over past deadly events that he feels responsible for allowing to happen. Said events cost him the life of his brother and also cost him the love of his life --- a Mormon widow he was ready to marry but instead ran away from due to his shame. In the interim he has been getting by on money earned from racing his prize horse but otherwise staying out on the edge of things. In his gut, though, he carries a thirst for revenge on the man who killed his brother and in his heart he still carries his love for Serene, the woman he abandoned.Coming across a young man left double-crossed by some bandits he’d innocently fallen in with serves as a catalyst to draw Lute back into many of the things he’d been on the run from. From the lad, Tom Baskins, he hears the name “Spanish” --- the outlaw leader responsible for the death of Lute’s brother. And then, after taking Tom back to make amends with the rancher (an old friend of Lute’s) he had inadvertently wronged while in bad company, one thing leads to another and Lute suddenly finds himself not only reunited with Serene but also committed to helping her son take their tithing herd to market. Part of this is as a favor to Serene, but perhaps a greater part is that Lute expects Spanish and his gang to try and rustle the herd, thus providing the former lawman the chance he has been waiting for – to once again confront Spanish. All of this is told in rapidly cutting-back-and-forth scenes involving numerous characters and settings, everything skillfully handled by author Lindermuth’s sure hand. You will find action, adventure, suspense, romance, and even a touch of mysticism --- interlaced with more than a few twists and surprises --- that will leave you cheering for Lute and the rest of the “good guys” and hoping to see more of them.Strongly recommended

I couldn't close it until I found out what happened to Spanish, the scum, and how Tim and the women resolved their situations. Great ending.I was intrigued by the idea of a tithing herd. From the details used I gather there really was a tithing herd at some point. I never heard of Nephites and googled information on them. One reason I like to read is learning such tidbits of information about culture in different times and places. J.R. Lindermuth did a great job with The Tithing Herd.

The story moves quickly, and I found it hard to put down. The characters drew me in from the start along with the dilemma of Hohenstein castle's survival. The only drawback for me was trying to pin down the specific time period--1910? 1920?Later? The existence of horse-drawn carriages and motorcars was a clue, but I never came up with the exact dates. Since I am not a huge reader of romance novels, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this historical romance. I eagerly await Ms. Lawson's next book.

An interesting historical romance By Karlie Lucas Hohenstein is an historic romance set in Germany about a young baroness who returns home to the ancestral castle, only to find it in a state of disrepair. Unable to secure funds to restore her beloved home to its original state, she is forced to get creative to come up with funds when she is unable to access her inheritance due to her father's qualifications that she either be married or reach 25 years of age. In her attempts to try and secure the means to support herself and her aunt, she comes across two handsome young men, a doctor and a count. Will love blossom during her quest to save her home? Read to find out.I am going to give this book four stars. Author Did Lawson has done an excellent job of portraying not only her characters, but the locations her story is set in. Everything is believable. I give it only four stars because there is one character who made me so mad in the first quarter of the book that I was ready to burn it. But I got over it and finished the book, which turned out well. I still think that one character needed a HUGE slap in the face, that he didn't get, but I am glad he got what he did in the end. And the twist near the end was also very unexpected. Not going to share what it is, but it was definitely unexpected.

You get stories that are hard to find any where else today. And art by greats like Neal Adams,John Buscema,Howard Chaykin and my personal favorite Rudy Nebres. Dark Horse has done a fine job in orginising and presenting these stories. They were all originaly in B&W to start with so you still get all the original impact. Bottom line these are great stories from a great time in comics.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Great production with bad doses of weak material 3 and 1/2 stars for serious effort By Richard A. Tucker The first thing that has to be said is that Dark Horse is making a noble effort to reprint Marvel's run of Robert Howard related comic tales. Unfortunately, by being the guys trying to reprint it ALL they are mixing some very mediocre efforts with some stellar ones and it drags the package down a bit. This is the curse of the Savage Sword of Conan volumes as well.Still, despite that, the production value alone is worth the look. Unlike the earlier re-colored efforts in the line-up of Howard inspired work the black and white reprinting job presented here is first rate without the colored efforts complicating the process. Over 400 pages of clean line work and some good storytelling makes this a bargain and worth the effort. For the Marvel purists it doesn't get any better than this. For the rest of us it's still decent. My wish is that someone collects a "best of.." volume. In the meantime this will fill the bill.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Perfect Mystery! By Danielle Urban Uncertain Murder by James Litherland is a stunning and most captivating mystery of them all. His writing lures readers deep into the mystery of one man's death. A death that was ruled out as a crime. However there are two that believe it was. These two characters are just intriguing as the plot. They are time travelers who are investigating into a man's death. Apparently everyone that was there for the man's death happens to be mentioned in his will. But as these people are being murdered the time travelers will have to race and figure who the killer is before it's too late for them as well.Uncertain Murder indeed fits in with the novel's theme and surrounds readers with uncertainty as a killer is loose and people die. Is it revenge or is it someone eliminating others? A fast-paced story that will keep readers guessing until the end. James Litherland has created a fascinating world with characters that bring unknown possibilities to readers' minds. A mystery so beautifully put together, readers will be looking for the next book inside this new series by James. For those love suspense, murder, and a novel with paranormal twists, this is the book for you. I highly recommend this novel to readers everywhere. James Litherland's writing is a talent most writers wished they had. Overall, I rate Uncertain Murder a five out of five stars.

Third Installment in the Watchbearer Series By Lupine Smile I would like to thank the author, James Litherland, for giving me a copy of Uncertain Murder to review. As the third installment in the Watchbearer series, this book highlights two lesser known characters from the previous books. Sam and Bailey team up to help solve the mystery surrounding the death of tech billionaire Brandt Keener. Turner makes an appearance as Keener's right hand man, although he is living under an assumed name. With a little mystery and a little mayhem, Uncertain Murder promises to captivate you at every turn. Reminiscent of an old fashioned "whodunit", James Litherland updates it with science fiction touches. The mystery deepens and the plot unfolds, leading to an ending that I did not see coming. Brilliant detective work and savvy undercover tactics break the case wide open. Although I did miss my favorite characters from the previous books, it was time to find out what happened to the rest of the Travelers. I would recommend Uncertain Murder to those who have read the previous two books because little nuances might be lost if you read them out of order. It is my sincere hope that there are more books to come in the Watchbearer series, as the possibilities are endless for the Travelers in both the future and the past.

This novel definitely verges off of the feel that we’ve come to know throughout the series, but is also definitely my favourite story from this series to date. The suspense was thrilling & the characters unforgettable. Litherland has developed his world in a manner that I can’t seem to get out of my mind. I loved each and every moment of it. The combination of ‘who did it’ with the subtle subtexts of the plot kept me entertained and my mind engaged. This was an engaging and thought provoking novel that kept me guessing right to the end. My final thoughts? Keep ‘em coming! Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

This novella surrounds the events that take place in book one, Flight, but with Levi's perspective. I loved getting inside his head and having a front row seat to his inner thoughts. Thank you Alyssa for creating this wonderful character. In the prior novels we only saw Levi from Allie's eyes. He is charming and magnetic, there is something about him that just draws you in. Gorgeous as he was, but also arrogant, cocky, and at times possessive. I still fell for him though. Both in First & Forever introduces a whole new side to Levi. I got to see how passionate he is, his worries and doubts regarding Allie's feelings for him, his fears at the thought of losing Allie, and of course his complete devotion and love that he has for her. Levi had finally found "the one", his Allie and I loved watching him prove himself to her. Also as a sweet little treat, Alyssa gives us readers the royal wedding from both Levi and Allie's POV's. It was really beautiful. Those two really are forever."Allie Davis was everything to me. And I couldn't wait to spend the rest of our lives together." ~ Levi My mind is seriously content to stay in this wonderful and mystical world that Alyssa has created. I was so giddy with happiness by the time I was finished reading.

This is a great little novella into the mind of Levi. If you are a die hard fan of the series you will LOOOVE this! I will say that it was fun to see Levi realize Allie was going to be more then just a bed mate for a night or two. I also loved to see Levi's feisty grandma who KNEW that Levi had met the one...even before he did!! But the scene that really got me was when he taking THAT RING from his parents house...ok fans of the series you totally know what ring i am taking about...EEEK!!!The only think bad I can say is ...NOT LONG ENOUGH!! I would have KILLED to be in Levi's mind the night he gives Allie Said ring. I would wanna see him rationalize what he was doing without telling her the ramifications of accepting the ring. Granted, Series Die Hards like me know what happens and all that jazz but still to be in my book boyfriends head for that scene would have been awesome!!Anyway, this book really only gives us insight to the first few days that Levi and Allie meet. It ends way to soon and before anything really happens with them as a couple but it was a nice reminded to me about what does happen in the book.Review of Forever for current release 8-11-14I received this book from the author for an honest review.ANNNY fan of this series is gonna be going CRAZY for this 2nd installment!! I mean I was and I am. We get a glimpse of the "ring scene" plus we can see the wedding and honeymoon. Those parts of Levi and Al's love story were in the spin off series so we were more focused on Jared then Levi...can you believe it?? Jared and not Levi...snickers bet Levi is not happy about that one.So this book is a short and sweet look through the stories when Al is dealing with the Toby drama and we even catch a glimpse of her "differentness" when the Were at a party mentioned her not being just a human.........see something i never noticed before...........Anyway, the most important part of this book is Levi's thinking when he gives Al THE RING. His heart is really in the right place BUT he does what Levi always does....thinks about Levi and not what Al's wants/needs might be. So yeah I kinda wanted to punch his face for Al because of his high handedness of their relationship. Wow that is the 2nd made up word in this review...EH oh well. The royal Wedding was awesome. We saw the wedding yes but to see it through Levi and Al's eyes was so sooo sweet. The whole time i am reading i was waiting for the "attack" but of course they were gone for that portion of the other book. The book was a nice look into and back through the relationship of Al and Levi. I love these two and look forward to more from them for sure.

She's one of the few Paranormal New Adult authors I stumbled upon and I love her books! And when she offered me a review copy of the First & Forever, I couldn't type fast enough! If you're looking to start the Crescent Chronicles, I still recommend reading Flight first, as Alyssa now dubs this one the fourth book in the series, I think that reading this one last is the best route to go!Now I've already read, reviewed, loved First! This was basically the first half of Flight through Levi's point of view. So naturally, Forever, is the second half of the novel through his eyes! And I was happy once again to return to this story but being inside his head! It's been awhile since I last read Flight, but it was really incredible to relive the story in Levi's eyes.In Forever, we basically see Allie being introduced to the paranormal world. After taking her on a flight with his own wings, Levi sees that she adjusts rather well to the idea. And if you've read Flight, you know how "well" things turn out.I love seeing the romance between Levi and Allie! It was such a sweet tender thing, but yet still explosive and powerful! There were a few times I felt like smacking Levi though and his logic. He didn't handle things too well, but as we know, it all works out in the end!I have to say I always admire when authors write from the male point of view. As a struggling aspiring writer, that feat is not something I even want to contemplate at this stage! I always love how it really feels like it could be the point of a view of a guy. Guess I have just grown used to all my female points of view over the years! Not only do we get these two novellas through Levi's point of view, that pretty much makes up Flight in his eyes, we also get a bonus short story called Royal Wedding. Needless to say this is Levi and Allie's wedding, plus the start of their honeymoon! It's a rather short read, and this time it's told from BOTH their points of view by alternating scenes. It was a rather sweet little read, as it really cements the two's happily ever after ending!First & Forever was simply incredible! I loved Levi and watching this his arrogant persona get turned around when he meets his match in Allie. This was one of my first foray into the Paranormal New Adult world and I totally loved it through and through!Overall Rating 5/5 stars

In the fall of 1944, World War II is raging across Europe as Hitler's troops continue their aggression. A wounded American soldier awakens in a make-shift military hospital, unaware of who he is. Aided by a French Priest, he finds that he has memories of one person but the body of another. When he recovers and makes his way back to the United States, he discovers that his wife has remarried after the War Department informed her that he had died in battle. Wandering his hometown unrecognized like a ghost, he wonders what to do with his second chance at life. How does Mage Axum choose between the mind and body--between his memories of the old life in East Texas and the new body of James Karl that takes him to the Pacific Northwest? He struggles to cope until fate intervenes and introduces him to the dynamic Betsy Blair, Palestine's only female journalist. Together they will change post-war America and travel the world. Their adventures of war, love, aviation, politics, and second chances span two continents and half a century of Americana.

I was very impressed with this first time author's work. The authors strength seems to come from his ability to create a strong connection to the characters that every reader will certainly appreciate. I particularly enjoyed the historical journey that the book conveyed from the 1940's until the early 2000's. As a World War II aficionado, I found Mage Axum's journey from being killed on the battlefield to waking up in a new body at an Army hospital fascinating. From there a new and worthy life was lead by Mage. Here Comes Mr. Jordan and Heaven Can Wait both have a similar premise, but Axum's work has a fresh, relevant and interesting take on this topic. A nice read that is well worth ones time this summer.

For starters, I went in cold, expecting something along the lines of "Saving Private Ryan" but it turned out to be more like "Forest Gump" and just as satisfying. Axum is a great story teller and effortly connects his characters with the reader to the point they quickly become old friends. Axum has achieved a literary trifecta by weaving a tale of characters, history and geography. I've been to some of the places Axum deftly describes, the other places I now long to go. I'm not one for speed reading, tending to pick a book and put it down over a long period of time. I binge-read this one in about 8 hours. It's that good and compelling.

This book goes beyond the mere "what ifs" and weaves a tapestry of true life events with the seemingly impossibility of a second chance. The reader finds himself wondering how he would react to the startling revelations and opportunities that Mage/James encounters. Could you really live in the same community as your family and loved ones and not reveal yourself to them? Could you start a new life and fulfill the barely imagined dreams of your old life? Mage/James' journey through his new life encourages us all to grasp the brass ring on this merry-go-round of life; we may not get that second chance.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. great addition to the Taragon Universe By Amazon Customer although i enjoyed the others in the series more, this was still a great book. The tech is very believable and the characters are easy to care about. There's just enough romance to keep it ineresting and lively. I've read all of the books in the Taragon Universe and have enjoyed each one. More please.

The reader is reintroduced to Khoe in this book as well as Ciela both love interests of Seth. The interactions among the 3 of them present rich and sometimes humorous situations. The romance in particular is a little tricky here but well handled and hillarious at times. The characters, as usual, are very well developed, I would ceritainly recognize them should they walk through the door. You can easily relate to and commiserate with...or despise them as the case may be. None of the characters is all good or all bad, that's what makes them so believable. The descriptions are vivid it's very easy to put yourself in the various environs and in some cases wish you weren't!The action is non stop but it's not just a shoot 'em up book there are nail biting escapes, intrigue and chases too. Good "guy stuff!"There is by the nature of the plot a lot of "science" including of course the rather slippery concept of entropy. I think Chris did an excellent job incorporating science into this space opera; its never an easy thing to do but in this case it was particularly challenging and well done.As with all of Chris books this can be read as a stand alone piece, and thoroughly enjoyed, but I think it is a richer experience if you have read some of the Sethran series first. In fact read the entire "Tatrgon Tales" franchise, I know you'll be engrossed.Chris is an up and coming writer who is quickly mastering the craft and genre. 5 stars!

Chris Reher hasn't found that line, hasn't been anywhere close to that line, and I'd say has years of writing before even finding that there is one in this series. So much richness in detail, characters, science, and plot. She always finds ways to make even the non-humans, well, human. She isn't afraid of awkward situations, she relishes them and in turn, you come to relish them as well. She's wonderful at showing rather than telling her stories. In this book Sethran is working against time to stop the dual natured beings from taking over and in turn, becoming potent tools in a rebel takeover. He is ever alive and never more "human." I did receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
