“My last memory was of walking down a sandy road in an Italian village along with three other soldiers...” In George Giles’ mind, he is a twenty-seven year old soldier preparing to return home after Germany’s surrender during World War II. But his body tells a different story; he is the serial killer Peter Hunter, who until recently was detained at Broadamoor for the criminally insane. Unlike Hunter, George has never killed, nor does he know of the 21st Century. Faced with a London much changed from his memories, George seeks answers from the past and tries to uncover how he is connected to Hunter.

It follows a man named George, a man and soldier from 1945, who to all in the world believe he is actually a murderer name Peter in the year 2000. This book is about a mans journey to find out WHO he really is. To the world he is Peter, but to himself he is simply George. This book was awesome. It was definitely well written and was easy to get into. It is filled with mystery, history, and had a great story line. Sometimes a person will read a book and would love to see it in movie form. This book was one of those for me.It was really a GREAT read. And the ending was just WOW!!!...Stormi

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. "Feel Good" Historical Novel By Kathleen Groom I enjoy historical fiction, especially when the story takes place close to home. Turquoise Summer hits the mark! Set in Grand Lake, Colorado, right after World War II, the story is filled with nostalgia as well as insight as to what it was like for mid-western Americans to readjust to normal life. So many subtle nods to a time gone by, including unaccompanied horseback rides around the lake and separate living quarters for the African-American maid, Alma (secretly my favorite character). I found the characters lovable and the story line delightful. I'm looking forward to a sequel.

Build, process and analyze large-scale graph data effectively with Spark

About This Book

  • Find solutions for every stage of data processing from loading and transforming graph data to
  • Improve the scalability of your graphs with a variety of real-world applications with complete Scala code.
  • A concise guide to processing large-scale networks with Apache Spark.

Who This Book Is For

This book is for data scientists and big data developers who want to learn the processing and analyzing graph datasets at scale. Basic programming experience with Scala is assumed. Basic knowledge of Spark is assumed.

What You Will Learn

  • Write, build and deploy Spark applications with the Scala Build Tool.
  • Build and analyze large-scale network datasets
  • Analyze and transform graphs using RDD and graph-specific operations
  • Implement new custom graph operations tailored to specific needs.
  • Develop iterative and efficient graph algorithms using message aggregation and Pregel abstraction
  • Extract subgraphs and use it to discover common clusters
  • Analyze graph data and solve various data science problems using real-world datasets.

In Detail

Apache Spark is the next standard of open-source cluster-computing engine for processing big data. Many practical computing problems concern large graphs, like the Web graph and various social networks. The scale of these graphs - in some cases billions of vertices, trillions of edges - poses challenges to their efficient processing. Apache Spark GraphX API combines the advantages of both data-parallel and graph-parallel systems by efficiently expressing graph computation within the Spark data-parallel framework.

This book will teach the user to do graphical programming in Apache Spark, apart from an explanation of the entire process of graphical data analysis. You will journey through the creation of graphs, its uses, its exploration and analysis and finally will also cover the conversion of graph elements into graph structures.

This book begins with an introduction of the Spark system, its libraries and the Scala Build Tool. Using a hands-on approach, this book will quickly teach you how to install and leverage Spark interactively on the command line and in a standalone Scala program. Then, it presents all the methods for building Spark graphs using illustrative network datasets. Next, it will walk you through the process of exploring, visualizing and analyzing different network characteristics. This book will also teach you how to transform raw datasets into a usable form. In addition, you will learn powerful operations that can be used to transform graph elements and graph structures. Furthermore, this book also teaches how to create custom graph operations that are tailored for specific needs with efficiency in mind. The later chapters of this book cover more advanced topics such as clustering graphs, implementing graph-parallel iterative algorithms and learning methods from graph data.

Style and approach

A step-by-step guide that will walk you through the key ideas and techniques for processing big graph data at scale, with practical examples that will ensure an overall understanding of the concepts of Spark.

By MSastry This book is easy to read with a promise to provide step by step procedures to learn Apache Spark Graph Processing. To the most extent, Mr. Rindra Ramamonjison fulfills the promise. There are several errors in the book as such reader gets confused and can not be followed through the text. For example, spark-1.4.1-bin-hadoop2.6.tgz does not have the directories: core, graphx, mllib, sql, and streaming in SPARKHOME. Also, in the directory data, there are no files such as people.csv and links.csv.Apart from the above superficial errors, the book met my expectation to learn Graph Processing.

By Adrian I've only recently discovered the Syncronicity War series and as such, was able to read all four books within a week. I actually had very low expectations in the first ten pages of the first novel, as I felt it was very choppy. However, as it built up steam, it became more fluid and the storyline became more complex, and convoluted, yet remained connected and plausible (for a military sci fi book, that is).Overall, it is an interesting series, and I am glad the author made a decision to resolve the war, instead of trying to flesh it out for an unknown number of books for revenue. One thing I feel the novel could have become even more. When I think about it, Mr Wehr has a pretty strong well connected plot. Authors like Neal Asher and Iain Banks would have turned his 300 page books into longer ones with more vivid and descriptive world building, descriptions, character development. It has the foundation to become one that other people compare sci fi to. There are flashes of this. For example, in the original timeline, the bio weapon transfers from an earth colony to earth via the innocent actions of a child who wants to take some lollies behind the adult's back and he accidentally coughs into the jar. This was well written and more of this more in depth writing could have made this a great book. Of course this is all a personal opinion and I fully recognize that my own tastes are not what everyone likes.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Synchronicity War series By Kindle Customer Dan I have recently read all four books and found that the first three books rated 5 stars. They were expertly written and I enjoy them totally. I reason I did not rate the 4th book with 5 stars is because I felt that the ending of book 4 left a lot of unanswered questions that were not addressed. Even though the author's comments were stated why they were not addressed, those questions should have been addressed at the end of 4th book. Questions related to the current and future plans of Shiloh and Kelly; the 7th mothership's escape; the result of the Insectoids; the status of certain IA's, etc, should have been made available to the reader at the end in book 4 in some basic detail.. I fully understand your right to reserve and to follow on with another different series, but if you do not have the answers for those questions, as you previous stated in book 3 & 4, a lot of readers are going to be disappointed.Great writing job on all four books! Look forward to reading some more of your works.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great new series. By Joey Feller This series delves into time travel in an interesting manner. I particularly like the aspect of time travel as a part of military tactics and strategy. There is also a very realistic maturation of the tactical and strategic abilities of the characters as they gain experience. Additionally, the inclusion of interesting artificial intelligence characters is fun. A great series I highly recommend.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A perfect summer read By Hanne-col When I first learned about this novella I was excited to find out that the authors, Emily Ann Putzke and Emily Chapman, were publishing it. They had previously posted the story as a series on their blogs but I had missed it. This way I would have a chance to read it. Not only that but it takes place during one of my favorite time periods to read about- The Great Depression/1930s. (I blame American Girl and Kit Kittredge entirely.) I enjoyed the story immensely. I was quickly caught up into the lives of sisters Bess and Gi Rowland and wondering how their stories would turn out. Both girls learn over the course of the story, and while it is important to know that you still have fun in hard times it is also important to help each other out when things get rough. I felt very much invested in the characters and really would not mind finding out more of how their lives went (hint, hint).Vivid characters is something of a trademark that I have experienced with both authors’ writing from the smaller short stories/scenes they have posted on their respective blogs and "Ain’t We Got Fun" follows in that vein. You are running across the Kansas prairie with Bess or downing uncountable cups of coffee in New York City with Gi. Not only are the two narrators vivid but also the people they encounter and describe. You even have a rough idea of what the musician couple who play the V-instrument are like even though they never really have “on screen” time."Ain’t We Got Fun" is the perfect short historical fiction read for you to add to your summer reading list.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful, inside & out! By Mary I loved this story! At first, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t like a story told entirely by letter, but it charmed me completely. I got that little rush of excitement at each letter, just like I was the one opening the letter from New York or Kansas. Gi and Bess were delightful; their natural, easy banter with each other leads you to think that Chapman and Putzke really are sisters! It didn’t take long before I was drawn completely into the Great Depression and the Rowland sisters’ accounts, all at once humorous, poignant, and always engaging. The romance element was very sweet, and the plot moved nicely. (I loved the references to Little Women/Anne of Green Gables.)I’d also like to add the book is a visual delight. Besides the beautiful cover, the inside is so detailed with lovely little accents. It suited the story so well. All together an innovative and highly enjoyable historical fiction!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Lovely read! By Maria Putzke I just loved this story! It takes place during such an interesting part of history and is well-researched. The characters are delightful, but also interesting and well-developed. I genuinely enjoyed seeing where their paths took them and how they changed and grew into themselves over the course of the story. It is well-written and easy to follow, and I love the medium of letters between two sisters. Definitely worth the read!

The threat of the Inquisition and its tortures holds the people in terror of their conquerors. William, the Prince of Orange, has led an unsuccessful rebellion, and is now a fugitive hiding in the city of Ghent. His cunning and faithful watchdog, a mysterious man called Leatherface for the mask he wears, is the only reason Orange is still alive. Spanish Duke de Alva conceives a plan to capture Orange by arranging the marriage of his general's daughter Lenora with the son of Ghent's High Bailiff, thus introducing a spy into a house known to be in sympathy with Orange. When Leatherface kills the bride's former lover, she swears vengeance on him and on all rebels. Intrigue follows intrigue, treachery and misunderstanding divides the enforced newlyweds, and Lenora can no longer tell whom she loves or hates until all seems too late. This book is a compelling read. It feels like an intense yet tender synthesis of "The First Sir Percy" and "The Scarlet Pimpernel," but with a hero of quite a different personality from either Sir Percy. I loved this book, and I know I will read it many more times in the future. Leatherface is my hero!

There is of course the important love story but the whole is very well written. I highly recommend it.
