Develop, debug, test, and troubleshoot Java EE 7 applications rapidly with Eclipse

About This Book

  • Go beyond simply learning Java EE APIs and explore the complete workflow of developing enterprise Java applications
  • Learn to use the features of Eclipse JEE to simplify Java EE application development
  • Develop and deploy complete applications with JEE

Who This Book Is For

If you are a Java developer who has little or no experience in JEE application development or you have experience in JEE technology but are looking for tips to simplify and accelerate your development process, then this book is for you.

What You Will Learn

  • Set up Eclipse, Tomcat, and Glassfish server for JEE application development
  • Use JSP, Servlet, JSF, and EJBs to create a user interface and write business logic
  • Create JEE database applications using JDBC and JPA
  • Handle asynchronous messages using MDBs for better scalability
  • Deploy and debug JEE applications and create SOAP and REST web services
  • Write unit tests and calculate code coverage
  • Troubleshoot application performance and memory issues

In Detail

Java EE is a technology for developing enterprise class, scalable applications. With recent changes to Java EE specifications, JEE application development has become a lot simpler. However, recent changes have also added many new specifications, some of which compete with existing JEE specification. Along with JEE specifications and APIs, it is also very important to understand the entire application development process and tools that can help simplify and accelerate JEE application development.

This guide provides a complete overview of developing JEE applications using Eclipse. The many features of the Eclipse IDE are explained. These enable the rapid development, debugging, testing, and deployment of JEE applications. You'll explore not just different JEE technologies and how to use them (JSP, JSF, JPA, JDBC, EJB, web services etc.), but also suitable technologies for different scenarios.

The book starts with how to set up the development environment for JEE applications and then goes on to describe many JEE specifications in detail, with an emphasis on examples. You'll learn how to deploy an example application on Tomcat and Glassfish Application Server.

You'll create a simple application that reads from a queue, processes the request, and publishes results to a topic and Eclipse MAT (Memory Analysis Tool) to debug memory issues.

Style and approach

This guide takes a step-by-step approach to developing, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting JEE applications, complete with examples and tips.

It covers the full stack of enterprise applications :- data persistence using JDBC, JPA with examples using MySQL,- business logic with EJBs and JNDI using the Glassfish container,- the Spring MVC framework for interactive data handling,- the creation and use of web services (REST and SOAP),- asynchronous messaging with JMS,- web page markup with JSP, Servlets, JSTL and JSF using the Tomcat server. Moreover, there are chapters on programming tools, including version control with Subversion and Git, unit testing, debugging and profiling. Each step is done with Eclipse and illustrated with numerous screen-shots. In summary, this book is a good tutorial to the JEE platform. It can be adequately completed by other books such as "Digital Java EE 7 Web Application Development" (Packt) and the standards available at jcp.org and java.net.

Great Reference for Java EE Developers using eclipse By Lars Lemos Read the book till the end. Each chapter left me curious to read the next. The main strength of this book is that each chapter takes a technology and gives a concise description of how to configure a development environment, how to set the boiler plate app, and then how to deploy and run an application with that technology on Tomcat and Oracle GlassFish.Pros:- For beginners, its like a full fledge course on how to develop a end to end application, starting with the most basic technologies and adding the necessary frameworks and also Testing&Debuggin it and and Profiling.- Great "recipes" and screenshots illustrating what needs to be done to get a technology set up in Eclipse and quickly use it.Easily applicable to other web servers, not just Oracle Glassfish Server.Tried in JBoss Widlfly and made small alterations for the examples. The chapter on Java EE Application with JPA and EJB also the RESTful Webservices have the best description and implementation.Cons:Wish the book had more pages for better reference. Conclusion:This book is an overview of the different technologies used, so each chapter had little background on the technology focused on the most perfomed tasks by developers.

I started reading Head First Java and did learn a lot about java programming and its core concepts but then I had no idea where to go from there. I felt I knew java but didn't know how applications actually use java, or how it integrates in the whole development process. For months I had been searching for a book that would teach me how real applications are built using java and this book finally did exactly that! If you like me, know the basics of java but want to take your knowledge to the next level, I highly recommend this book. It will not make you an expert, but you'll finish it knowing a lot more about how java is used when building applications and the different technologies and frameworks out there.

London has just been told that she has incurable cancer with a year to live. Only twenty-three, she takes the news by the horns, refusing to give in to the devastating diagnosis. She sells everything, moves in with her friend, and makes a bucket list. Determined to do everything, she is aided by Adam, who just happens to appear out of nowhere, giving her the boost she needs. Together they embark on a journey, hopping from America to Ireland, Italy, and more. London is filled with wit and snarkiness which I found endearing. There is also a 'thorn' by the name of Caine that will lead to a revelation. The fact that I understood what was going to happen in advance did not detract from the story. I found it interesting because I was able to view the developments with a keener eye, watching out for little details that London missed. There are perspectives on life after death that I found fascinating. As Ms. Dawn says in her dedication: "Never let anyone dull your sparkle, keep shining no matter what." Excellent advice.I give this 5 stars. There are more surprises in store for London and I'm sure that you will enjoy the twists as much as I did.

It takes you through one year of London's life after she is diagnosed with terminal cancer and meets a special friend named Adam. With so many twists and turns, humor, sweetness and surprises it keeps you glued to each page. You can't put it down until you find out what happens next.

I was intrigued to pick this up because the blurb sounded interesting. It is a touch of contemporary with a hint of paranormal. London is diagnosed with cancer and she makes a bucket list. She meets a stranger named Adam who finds the list and decides to help her complete it. You get to watch London grow and change as she completes each item. It is refreshing to see a love story about accepting yourself and friendship. Of course you have some amazing fights scenes and a lot of snark. It was quite the change from what I normally read and it was great. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a breath fresh air. The story line is completely unique and will take you on a journey with the characters you learn to love. This is the first book I have read from this author but it won't be the last.

John Peters, the book, while hard to determine the genealogy lines, seems complete at the time it was written. This, with Silas McKeen's writings, is more than most families have regarding their ancestors. Highly recommend if you are part of this family!

By terri While this book certainly covers the genealogy of the Peters family; it is very poorly organized and is difficult to follow familial lines after the first few pages. Be prepared to "dig" through it in order to find what you need!

Ebook PDF The First Primary: New Hampshire's Outsize Role in Presidential Nominations, by David W. Moore, Andrew E. Smith

Since 1952, the primary election in a small, not very diverse New England state has had a disproportionate impact on the U.S. presidential nomination process and the ensuing general election. Although just a handful of delegates are at stake, the New Hampshire primary has become a massive media event and a reasonably reliable predictor of a campaign's ultimate success or failure. In The First Primary, Moore and Smith offer a comprehensive history of the state's primary, an analysis of its media coverage and impact, and a description of the New Hampshire electorate, along with a discussion of how that electorate reflects or diverges from national opinions on candidates and issues. A book for political scientists and political junkies, media and policy professionals, and all students of American government, The First Primary ably fills the gaps in our understanding of New Hampshire's outsize role in the nomination process.

Told only in pure verse and rhyme, the reader follows the story of Eugene Onegin and his lover, Tattiana.Yes, I enjoyed the story greatly. What a read! To follow the lives of these characters through poetry, to learn their deepest feelings, tortured thoughts, and highest ecstasies -- written out not in typical prose, but in a way that tingles the soul. This novel has certainly intrigued me. I'd love to tackle another story in verse again one day."Happy he who in youth was youngHappy who timely grew mature,He who life's frosts which early wrungHath gradually learnt to endure...."(Stanza X, Canto VIII)

By Amazon Customer Had the honor of reading an advanced copy of this book, provided by the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. However, I'm thrilled that I dearly loved this book. Catherine's writing delighted and surprised me because I haven't read any voice like her, and I found her style very refreshing. I especially loved the lyrical prose and vivid imagery, the realistic and enthralling setting, the feeling of being in the story right along with the characters who were very memorable to me. Catherine did a fantastic job making me care deeply about the characters and their journeys. I look forward to her next book.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Is It My Will or God's? By Grandaddy A I loved this quote from the heroine in the story because it is so much like many Christians today: “I’m still such a babe in Christ. Will I ever stop seeking my desires and reasoning it is God’s will that I satisfy my own whims?” Can you relate? I certainly can. I have been there, haven’t you? Some readers may find they are still in the throes of it. I enjoyed the book as the heroine finds herself in one jam after another because of her head-strong ways. The hero doesn’t fare any better except he is a very large man who is better equipped to ward off the attacks of others. It is quite an interesting tale of a small group called to be missionaries to the Indians in the Oregon Territory. The author keeps the reader questioning whether they will ever make it to the area to which they have been appointed. Not only must they overcome the dangers of travel by wagon and horseback in the early 1800s and the possibilities of attack by warring Indian parties, but the fur traders and trappers with whom they are traveling are a real source of danger for the women. Temptations and attacks are rampant, but much of it is internal rather than external. I recommend the book. In fact, you will have to read it if you want to know what wilted dandelions have to do with a missionary journey.

Mountaintop Academy, sister school of Whitehall, has secrets, deadly secrets - and its MageMaster is dying. When he finally leaves the mortal world, it will trigger a power struggle that may tear the school apart. When a cabal within Mountaintop plots to kidnap Emily and seduce her to their side, she is asked to go undercover into Mountaintop in the hopes she can uncover some of their secrets before they explode out into the open. But when Mountaintop's Administrator begins to introduce her to entire branches of forgotten or forbidden magics, Emily finds herself torn between her love for knowledge, her sense of what is right and wrong... and the mission she agreed to undertake. And when she comes face to face with the dark secret at the heart of the school, it may kill her... or leave her corrupted with a darkness that will never leave her soul. Praise for Lessons in Etiquette "...Emily and Alassa are strong female heroes, remaining composed in the face of danger and asserting themselves when necessary. The book speaks to those who wonder how much developed nations should interfere in the cultivation of a developing society...." ~ San Francisco Book Review.

After all, she is about nineteen years old, so she should be acting like an adult. However, after a week at mountaintop, she seems to revert back to a naive girl, going with the flow and not bothering to think through the consequences of her actions. True, this may be common among YA novels, but I expect a protagonist like Emily to constantly improve throughout the series as part of their character development. Frankly, a foolish character wouldn't survive very long in dangerous situations. Besides, it's enjoyable to read about a characters improvement and successes.

I gave this book four stars due to the fact that Emily seemed to grow less as a character in this novel. While the additon of Mountaintop, Demons, add to the world, there seems little room for Emily as a character. They times when she does that a stand are around issues that Emily has already shown as a character. I agree with an earlier review, that Emily seems to be succeeded by Accident as opposed to Intent. She is a "Child of Destiny" and perhaps this is why she succeeds. We have been told that she has great magic power and potential, but her naivity is starting to wear thin; her lack of confidence and planning seem to say that any wizard that did not take mountaintops oaths could have accomplished the same task. I liked all of the earlier books and I hope the next book shows us a Emily that has more of a backbone, speaks her mind, and has confidence when facing challenges.

It shows some personal growth from the main character, but most secondary characters remain very thin. Emily shows more maturity, but remains magically relatively weak. This means most of her victories are the result of accident rather then intent. This was cute at first, but as she gets older one hopes to see more victories from planning and strength. After the last book the author seemed to indicate he was planning a long series. While one can understand the desire of an author for such success my experience is that it is a strain on the story line to draw things out too much. I hope that what has been a very good series is not harmed by trying to keep it going too long.
