But, with no doubts, very useful.Spring Boot is the core. The author creates an initial app on it, and follow during all book. Another unique ideas are to replace JSP pages by Themeleft and exclude all xml-configuration files. For the last purpose, he uses java classes with annotations.Also there is useful case about sessions: what they are in Spring and how you can configure them easily and safe this kind of user data in external storage (for example, Redis).The main project of the book is about creating a search app, that can search tweets through Spring Social API. In around 20 classes you do all the spring basics, include Rеst API and Security. Also you can find definitions about Java 8 Time API, Swagger UI and contemporary thoughts about front end development.There is a chapter that explains how to do request optimizing through different tools, but I think it's too short to describe that subject in a good manner. Author doesn't split the source code in order of appearance.

I thoroughly enjoy the pace of the book By Wayne Lund I have been consumed over the past year in helping customers get up to speed with Spring Boot, SpringXD and, more recently, Spring Cloud. This book deserves a place on the shelf with the likes of "Learning Spring Boot", "Spring Boot in Action" and the Safari "Building Microservices with Spring Boot LiveLessons". There's a surprising amount of additional information on each of the topics Geoffrey undertakes while keeping his book the most current book today on Master Spring MVC. I thoroughly enjoy the pace of the book. Ch1 not only gets a decent "Hello World" but you come a way feeling like you understood the experience and it takes away some of the seeming magic of spring boot. His example moving forward is well chosen showing both the details of SpringMVC and leveraging other spring projects in the Portfolio like Spring-Social. Although I've used Spring for many years I was introduced to some very handy new tools that are now a part of my toolkit. This is a great contribution to the growing tech material around Spring Boot.

Landrain I have participated to the review and, as I have written in the preface, this book may well be the best book that's been written so far on Spring MVC. The quality of the draft edition was simply amazing. I can talk honestly because I have already helped in reviewing a few other books, for PackT but also for Manning. I'm pretty sure you won't regret buying it. My comment here is truly sincere: my participation on this book is completely over.

There is some practical tips about using the Orale SOA Suite. However, code samples for the book as well as the book itself leave out key information that prevent proper implementation of his examples. Here's just one glaring illustration: chapter 4 says: "Select or create a database connection that holds the Saibot Common tables." (Saibot is a fictional airport used in the book.) So, where are those tables, what are they? The author must have had them somewhere. The online web site that supports this book is incomplete as well -- and the author is not responding to queries.

By Martin Asiner It is tempting to read THE FALL OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE in the light of the events after 1991 when Boris Yeltsin stood on a Russian tank to address the troops who were sent to arrest him but instead followed him in ousting a seven decade old communist dictatorship. The 'fall' of the novel occurs in 1986, unlike its real life counterpart of 1991. Yet the difference between the fictional fall and the actual fall was one more of degree than of kind. In hindsight, it now seems obvious that the former Soviet Union was ripe for a fall. Donald James raises a number of issues that early in the novel suggest this fall was imminent. James notes a fact that may have been surprising to one who was unfamiliar with Russian history and geography: "At the root of the looming problems was the simple fact that the Soviet Union was an empire comprising fifteen totally different nations, one hundred languages, a racial spectrum from Slav to Mongol." James sets the background of his novel by drawing a comparison between the disunity of the Soviet people with the disunity of the Soviet Army: "By the early 1980's all but the first rank of Soviet Army divisions were riddled with racial tensions." Into this cauldron of oil and water, James introduces his major characters: Zoya Densky, who flits in and out of the action and supplies first hand limited view perspective; Natalya Roginova, the leader of the Soviet Union before she is ousted in a coup; Semyon Kuba, who follows Roginova as a Stalin wanna-be First Secretary and Absolute Leader of Russia; and Bubo, the penal convict who escapes the gulag to lead an army of penals to the very gates of Moscow with the intention of burning down the capital. There is no 'hero' in the traditional sense of a novel's dramatic center. Each of the main characters has his moments on stage and either reacts to events beyond his control, as Zoya Densky does, or acts to try to contain the uncontainable fury of the penal army as both Kuba and Bubo do. Along the way, the reader learns a great deal about the inner rot that comprised the heart of the Communist Party. By the novel's end, Kuba has only one option to retain his quickly dissipating hold on power. He tries a mass purge of murder and arrest for all those of the Politburo and Central Committee who threaten to balk his plans to control Russia, but he is too late. He himself is removed in a coup which restores Natalya Roginova to power. Kuba seems not surprised at his fate: "Try as he might, he could not imagine where he had gone wrong, or how Joseph Vissarionovich might have done better." James accurately portrays how a great country was lead astray by a clique of power hungry radicals in 1917 and how those same radicals bled that nation of pride, power, and respect. Perhaps there is a lesson for the current center of Russian leadership: the infinite capacity of the Russian people to sacrifice for the common good is matched only by an equal capacity for anger when they see that their sacrifices have been in vain.

Amazingly Prophetic Work By Gary Selikow I would guess that not since the works of Aldous Huxely and George Orwell has a novel been so prophetic.Of course some of the details were not correct in this 1982 novel -written the year of Brezhnev's death- but so much of it was to come true.The decisive years in the novel were 1980 to 1985 while in reality the decisive events that finally cracked the Soviet monolith took place from 1985 to 1991.A member of the old guard is elected after Brezhenev ,but just like Andropov and Chernenko, die within roughly a year of assuming office.There is a struggle between hardliners and reformists led by a female Gorbachev figure.Eventually the fate of the Soviet Empire is decided in a dramatic standoff in Moscow between the people of Moscow and troops loyal to the hardline Communists-chillingly like the events of August 1991-leading to the collapse of the communist monster.One by one the Soviet Republics secsede from the Union as was to really happen.The hardliners-including the KGB -conspire to stall reform but fail.A look into the heart of the communist tyranny reveals what was going on when the book was written,at a time when those on the left in the west were denying these horrors.The Free Trade Union movement mirrors Solidarity in Poland and the passions of nationalism in the Soviet colonies and in Russia itself are depictedThe book is an epic in itself with suspense,love ,hate,horror and all the ingredients of a good novel. It centers around several characters inlcuding the young and lovely Zoya Densky who symbolizes the new generation that would in fact overthrow despotism in Russia and Eastern Europe,an American diplomat and his wife;Letsukov-a Ukrainian KGB agent who turns and helps the overthrow of the Russian Empire;Igor Bukansky-a journalist who has betrayed his principals but when he finally stands up to the government is destroyed together with his lover, the sensual but tragic Lydia Petrovna-the mother of the narrator of this story. Then there is Joeph Densky-a combination of Vaclav Havel and Lech Walesa and Kuletsyn-Lydia's uncle who is a renowned dissident writer and eccentric but whose bitterness and particularly his calouss refusal to help his niece and Bukansky helps seal their fate.Indeed for all the idealism of his work Kuletsyn is in my opinion exposed as a cruel and hateful figure

There are too many errors, some of which even completely change the meaning. For example "Yah zna-yoo" means "I know", not "I don't know". "Nyeshnaya zima" is not "This summer", but strange sounding "Tender summer". Some other reviewer correctly remarked that the book does not see any difference between two very different Russian letters Э ( eh ) and З ( zeh ) and the spelling of Ы is incorrect (it is not like "el" in bell, but rather like "i" in "bin").

First alphabet on page 8 is not making difference between two very different Russian letters Э ( eh ) and З ( zeh ) and completely incorrectly spelling letter Ы ( no direct equivalent in English but definetely not like "el" in bell ). The rest of book is full of errors, small and not so small. Some sentencies are translated completely opposite of what they are actually meaning. Do not trust this book to teach you correct Russian.

Hervey #12 By Manly Reading I must be mellowing in my dotage, since some volumes ago the lack of action caused me no little angst, whereas now I find myself almost appreciating the picture drawn of England in 1830 as Hervey navigates the issues of command of a regiment and neglect of his family. On the up side too, we see something of Captain Peto, who promptly steals every scene he is in: and perhaps a little happiness is coming his way at last. If nothing else, I could forgive a lot due to that alone, since Peto is perhaps - along with Fairbrother - the best man appearing in the Hervey series. As I've said before, I'd prefer to have read another nautical series with Peto the hero, but Mr Mallinson writes of what he knows, a cavalry regiment, and there is some little value in that also.Early Hervey volumes were described as "a cavalry Sharpe" - and that may have been true then, but certainly is not now. This is a much loving fictional history of the rural troubles of the winter of 1830, and then of commemorations of Waterloo with yet more civil disturbance (but by foreigners who really don’t know better, rather than by Englishmen). In the end, I enjoy the history enough to let the paucity of battles pass by, but I do have to say that any blurb on the back of the book promising action should be taken with a very large pinch of salt.I don’t know where Hervey goes after this, and to a degree I don’t mind. This is more Austen than Cornwell, but if you can manage that, well recommended.

Crain Allan Mallinson has replaced Patrick O'Brien as my favorite author of historical fiction. His Matthew Hervey series is outstanding- beautifully and intelligently written, nearly flawlessly researched, and vividly descriptive. Interestingly, although there is relatively little "action" in this, his latest installment, I think it may actually be my favorite of the series. Mallinson is not afraid to take us into his character's inner life, and Hervey's is extremely well-drawn. His is a deeper, richer character than most heroes of historical fiction. He sins, and feels remorse that is believable for the son of a cleric. The secondary characters are very well done, also. This is a mature, intelligently written novel, and at the same time, it has enough excitement even for the literary adrenalin fan.Thank you, Brigadier Mallinson! Please send us more!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Worthwhile, but not the best in the series By Todd Gibson Compared to the other books, I thought this one was a little weaker, although still enjoyable. No epic battles, a bit of politics, just seemed a little slow although well written as always.

This is a well written and sensitive story about the daily lives of one intergenerational family living in Dusseldorf, Germany during the difficult years surrounding World War I. The book gives the reader a glimpse of "ordinary" family life as seen through the eyes of a teenager, mother, grandmother, father and grandfather. Each are touched in different ways. The author does a superb job detailing early 20th century German life, interweaving political events with personal sacrifice. I would recommend it to anyone with a passion for historical fiction and a love of learning about the Great War.

A Neglected Perspective on World War One By Dr.B This is an expertly and sensitively written tale about the Home Front in Düsseldorf, Germany, during and immediately after World War I, as experienced by the fictional Kruger family. The story of the roller coaster of emotional and physical hardships of three generations of grandmothers, mothers, and children living together and left behind while their men were wounded or dying on the Western Front reminds the reader of a too often neglected side of the Great War. It is a great read for adults willing to ponder both the greatness and depravity of humanity.

I really enjoyed this step-back-in-time By ToneZone "Love, Secrets and Sacrifices" was a very thought-provoking book which drew me back to days of old. During WW2, the Germans were our enemies but the Kruger family, as depicted during the WW1 setting of this story, seemed like the family living next door. War brings horror on the battlefield and deprivation on the home front. The love of Paul and Hannah and what they endured proved that the spirit of unity and love of family is worth the sacrifices. I really enjoyed this step-back-in-time.

By wtstephens This is the perfect read for when you are at the beach or want to indulge in a story on the porch. The author makes every paragraph matter, as it is told in a narration style advance the narrative between Sarah and John. It is told in a way that makes me feel as if I am listening to a masterful auteur. If The Moth had been a thing in the 1800s, this chapter in Sarah's life would have fit right in.While only mentioned once in Sarah So Strong, the "war chest" discussed at length in her previous book only makes one appearance here. I appreciate this because it leaves me, the reader, wondering about the feelings of the characters. A "war chest," simply put, is a file that is locked deep inside oneself containing all of the emotional turmoil of the war. Sarah's path was interesting to me. Avoiding any potential spoilers, I felt that her chain of decisions weren't decided for what benefited her best. They were decided for what benefited her child the best. Her battle is one of emotional complexity. She is anything but naive; when it appears that she is by today's standards, the reader needs only to think back to her "war chest." The title is very fitting. Sarah is pretty damned strong.I look forward to reading more of her story. This is only a piece of who she is.
