About the Author Kimberly Ann (Harkola) Brown was born in 1974 in Rochester, New York. She then went on to The State University of New York at Geneseo gaining a BS in Business Management. Thereafter Kim moved to San Francisco and met her British Prince, Simon (at an Irish Bar - of course!). Simon Brown swept her off her feet and brought her to London, England where she remained for almost 20 years. While in England she climbed the business ranks, went from employee to employer and eventually built two very successful companies. During a higher education degree at Cranfield University in 2011, Kim discovered that the life she was living wasn't working for her anymore. Although her companies were very successful, she felt trapped, frustrated and physically unwell. The time had come to take a leap into the unknown and the Programme helped her to make an extremely emotional exit. If it wasn't for her mid-life-challenge, as Kim calls it, she might have remained on the mother land, but itchy feet and a desire to lead a new life caused a massive lifestyle change. The year before her 40th birthday, Kim and her husband sold everything they owned (the business, house, car, small boat and possessions) and purchased the largest yacht they could afford. The plan was to take their daughter, at the time 3 1/2 years old, for an adventure of a lifetime. The Brown's purchased a 56' Oyster sailboat and named it Britican. The name comes from Simon being BRITish, Kim being amerICAN and their daughter, Sienna, being both. Over the past few years, Kim has changed her values and lifestyle. The old Kim sought out wealth and riches failing to consider whether the journey was worth it. The new Kim now seeks higher levels of fulfillment. Through Kim’s transitioning she’s wrote the book, ‘How Life Really Works,’ in addition to writing about the trials and tribulations of becoming a full time sailor. Should be bought and maintained by all serious sailors. Also if you are like me and already have existing lists, this book will help you to rethink and update those lists. Thank you for a fine addition to the ship's library!

Every Checklist You might Ever Need in One Book By Amazon Customer After months of drafting my own inadequate checklists a friend recommended Kimberly Browns book Checklists for Sailors. I never realised that there were so many aspects to sailing that this very comprehensive and complete book covers in ensuring that risks are minimised through thorough pre planning. In addition the offer of the Microsoft Word soft copy has allowed me to modify, consolidate and tailor these checklists to my own personal needs.As a serious sailor in Australia and the Pacific I would highly recommend this book.Trevor James Bavaria 45 Cruiser

Let's face it, with the amount of powerful drugs constantly being promoted and pushed in our direction, medicine as practiced today has become a dangerous road to navigate. This book will help you navigate. It is definitely a no-nonsense guide that you need if you want to achieve your goal of better health.

Moira Dolan’s inaugural book, No-Nonsense Guide to Psychiatric Drugs, the first in her ‘No-Nonsense Guide series of Kindle books, truly highlights her fierce and passionate patient advocacy. An intense and outspoken and very competent physician. Dr. Dolan outlines the history of psychiatry, featuring the lack of ‘hard’ science in its development, and the acknowledged lack of known or demonstrated mechanisms of actions. Addressing a diverse group of chemicals from different drug groups, now classified by intended action, those drugs commonly prescribed for ‘psychiatric conditions’, often new diseases proclaimed in recent DSM IV and V, have limited efficacy, and significant risks. My first impression on reading is that the patient will be too scared to take the drugs! My second impression is, that it good. Dr. Dolan emphasizes the need for patients to be ‘informed’ and to ‘consent’ to the risks; it is their decision, and it is most likely not being emphasized by practitioners. An additional concern that I have is that most psychiatric drugs are now prescribed by non-psychiatrist physicians, and also by mid-level practitioners, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, who collectively have substantially less training and experience in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders. This latter group of non-psychiatrists are probably more influenced by PHARMA as well. This influence contributes to an over-prescribing of this class of drugs.The ‘scare’ notwithstanding, I recommend any patient or family read Dr. Dolan’s psychiatric drug book to fully appreciate the risks, and recognize the signs and symptoms of toxicity if they do occur.I do believe that psychiatric drugs do have the potential to benefit certain patients, but the patients themselves have to be informed of the risks before they are exposed to the drugs.James T. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Covers an Impressive Amount of Ground By Kieran Hair A well-written historical fiction novel can be a beautiful thing. Most readers are not historians, and gain very little from reading a book that expects them to understand the intricacies of the locations, fashion, and political climate of a given era. But a truly great historical fiction novel will not demand such prior knowledge. Instead, the author will utilize such depth of description that the reader is almost left wondering if the author had somehow been present for the events described. Every character will feel like a real person, someone relatable, as if they were someone we could still meet today. This book accomplishes such a feat.Most of this can be attributed to the two main characters, a young Catholic man by the name of Markus Mathias and a young Jewish man by the name of Solomon Levi. Lancers in the Imperial German East Asian Expeditionary Force, the two friends are unique in more ways than just their faith. This makes their journey all the more compelling as we watch them engage in battle, fall in love, and face numerous intriguing stops along their journey home. Those of us with less historical education may sometimes fall prey to the belief that live abroad was easy in the years before the Great War. The story of Markus and Levi challenges that very notion.This is not just a story of friendship, although that is certainly a major element of the story. The two become separated at times, which is when the uniqueness of their characters is given a chance to truly shine. And this is perhaps one of the most important story elements if we are expected to read three more books in this series. Given the wide range of geography and chronology covered by this first volume, it would appear as if subsequent books will be well worth the minor cost of these books. Those looking for an intriguing, character-driven journey through history cannot go wrong with “Kalvarianhof.”

Hubbard Walter Soellner has spun an interesting, fast-moving tale in Kalvarianhoff, told in an authentic historical setting. His descriptions of settings and scenes successfully transports one to the center of whatever is happening at the time.I was drawn in by the historically accurate description of European and American involvement in China's Boxer Rebellion. Soellner spends some time explaining the reasons for that involvement, and a little of China's reasons for resisting the foreign presence. Most of this was done via interactions between German soldiers, the central characters of the novel. I would have like more background and nuance about this important event, perhaps by recreating higher level discussions among officers and/or diplomats, to have revealed more of the complexity of the conflict. But, the author did succeed in whetting the appetite of the those curious enough about history to find out more on their own.He adds to the authenticity of the story by bringing in actual historical characters, such as Sun Yat Sen, and some of the cultural, scientific, sexual, racial, and geographical realities of the time --- from China, to the Pacific Islands, and to parts of South America and Western Africa. It's a broad sweep of story telling that morphs from action-oriented, geo political to romantic. It keeps you turning the pages by connecting all the unfolding pieces through through the actions and thoughts of steadfast central characters.So, I am left wanting to know more about those characters and how the societies they live in will evolve. The next book has the opportunity to be even more interesting, given that the focus should be on a smaller part of the globe, about to experience wars, holocausts, and globe-changing political movements. If Soellner can both continue to give us his photographic physical descriptions and help us understand and feel the reasons for these events through his characters, we will be well rewarded.

Hard to put down.Interesting and evolving main characters drag others in as time marches on and the world changes about them. This book covers roughly 1900-1910, the Boxer Rebellion, those new-fangled automobiles, development of airplanes and travel by ships and trains; women allowed into colleges and (growing) anti-Semitic attitudes. You get carried back to the times and the locales. China, Pacific Islands, South America, Africa and Europe are described in engaging detail. You feel you are there with them and they are people you'd like to hang out with.There are non-stop surprises: addiction, cannibals, sharks, hyenas, car and plane and ship crashes keep jumping off the next page. The background and history are introduced in a natural way that makes you feel educated without having to study.Full Disclosure: I know the author and will be discussing the sex scenes next time we get together.

The first was Blacklisted. It’s a military thriller that I've been waiting for the next book in the series. I saw this book in a Facebook post and thought I'd look into it. I'm always hesitant with strong female leads as they can tend to be more on the emotional side of storytelling, not that I'm a sexist or anything but...well I am a dude so...shoot people and blow stuff up and I'm a happy camper.I can say that in this case I had nothing to worry about. Patricia Ryder, the heroine of this series is a man's women....hmmm, well you know what I mean.There's a serial killer running around San Francisco. A particularly disturbed individual that decapitates his victims. If that wasn’t gruesome enough the crime scenes don't add up and no one seems to be able to explain why.If Ryder didn't have enough to deal with, trying to solve the murders, she has to put up with her male colleagues who would love nothing better than to see her gone. Roaring around town in a 1970 Doge Challenger lovingly named Susie-girl grabbed from the impound lot, she's on the hunt but this case is far from your normal homicidal maniac killing spree and it doesn't take long for her to come to the attention of the killer and Ryder has suddenly gone from the huntress to the hunted, or is she?There's a presence that wants into this world, our world, and it's not taking no for an answer. Ryder unknowingly has the power to stop it but will she believe? Will she be able to trust where logic says not to? What about her father showing up out of the blue even though he's been dead for a long time, never mind the fact that he's older than everyone thought, much older? San Fran and the world will never be the same.I had a hard time putting this book down. There are some really great lines from Ryder that had me laughing and shaking my head but I was glad that the author didn't try to force that humor in when we get into the meat of the story as some do.This is a very visual book, the items and places have just the right amount of description to form the mental image without going overboard in an attempt to fill pages.There's a twist at the end you don't see coming. Well written and well-hidden, that's the thing that kicks this book up a notch and ensures you're onboard for the next book in the series.I'd easily recommend this to readers of multiple genres because it fits well into many different ones.Good on ya Luke, Keep up the good work.

This is not a short story, but by the time you reach the end of it, you feel as though the beginning of the story was years ago, but in reality, it was only a matter of hours that have passed because you failed to put the book down from the minute you started reading to the end of the story.There are so many facets to the story, too. There's so many ways that it can be developed. And the author is like a mind-reader. Every time I read something that caused me to pause and question, as though there were a hole in the plot, moments later he asks the same question. Typically when questions like the arise while I'm reading, the questions go unanswered. It could be that the author steered me toward asking that question, but the part of the story that it completes is essential to the overall picture. It's like reading someone piecing a puzzle together.He doesn't travel down predictable plot lines. And just when you get comfortable thinking that there is a lull in the action - WHAM! he gets you with another round of twists and turns. Don't expect this story to come wrapped up with a pretty ribbon and bow at the end, either. You'll have as many questions leaving the story as you did when you entered. It's fantastic!

Phenomenal Journey into the sci-fi world By Danielle Russell Ryder: Demonsong is a book that takes you on a fantastic journey where one smart-mouthed cop will have to fight to save the world. But in a city where her friends are really her foes and her supposed enemies are her only allies, who can she trust at her back? Luke Romyn knows how to keep you guessing until the very last possible moment. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Ryder and her crew of misfit soldiers.

By Emily Beth Ronald Ellis is a master of the pen in this thoughtfully written impassioned novel of the talented yet tumultuous soul of Niccolo Paganini. His knowledge of music and music history makes for not only an entertaining read, but also an informative one! Reading "Niccolo: The Lone Wolf of Genova" is like traveling without the inconvenience and expense... a journey to 18th and 19th century Europe... a distinct yet eerily familiar time and space. I look forward to reading it again and again.

She was raised​ is an orphanage who now out in the real world and get a job as a bartender. That were she meet Samual. This man does fit into the bar he seems out of place but yet so hot. Tamara and Samual end up leaving together you will have to read to see what happen. I can't wait for the next book.

It is such a great read and I noticed that there are more parts. GET IT! You will not be disappointed. It is very well written and keeps you truly entertained.

By Imez Aletha is sketching a century old abandoned miner's shack when a little girl appears through a tiny rip in time and space. They only see each other for a second, and then the rip closes back. With Aletha's sketchbook still in 1900.The little girl Callie and the woman Aletha are tied together, rifts opening at random, enabling passing between the two times in the same town, a bloody troubled mining town in Callie's time and a tourist attraction in Aletha's. Aletha repeatedly gets trapped in the past, wanders a bit, then finds her way back.I love this story, but mostly because it is my favorite kind of story. I'm the kind of person who will stand in front of a support beam in an old building for an hour, touching it just because I know a person 80 years dead once also touched it. This book was written for me.It delivers the "what would I do if I got trapped in 1900?" adventure. And a few of the character story arcs, mostly the old time women and the crap they have to deal with, are really compelling.Otherwise, I hate to admit, it is a bit shambly. A lot of uninteresting characters yipping around the few good ones. The most common occurrence is a secondary character darting into a scene, saying "You're all crazy!" and darting out again. Happens over and over. And the story gets sidetracked with miner's revolts and union corruption.And the payoff is so small, so unsatisfying. Maybe there is a sequel that explains all the loosey goosey ends.Better to read Millhiser's "The Mirror" which delivers the same good stuff with almost none of the jumbly unsatisfying stuff.

But if you haven't read "Mirror" by the author read "The Threshold" first. I was disappointed (and it really was good!) because "Mirror " was an exceptional story. In fact, my (adult) daughter was named Shay for the title character in "Mirror".
