A rough first draft is like an opinion: everyone has one, few are pleasant, and most people should think twice before airing it to the public without considering their words a second time. Everyone knows first drafts suck. They’re a headache to write, and don’t even get me started on the mess of grammar there is to sort through during revisions! But, unfortunately, they’re unavoidable. But there’s no need to pull out all of your hair in frustration! You, like so many authors before, can conquer the first draft, and this book is here to help you survive the most grueling stage of the writing process. Learn about the five stages of first draft grief and how to overcome them. Discover what style of writer you are. Know when to ignore temptation from shiny new ideas and when to give in. Condition yourself not to fear the blank page and look forward to revisions. With a healthy dose of motivation and advice, Surviving First Drafts will equip you with all the tools you need to make it to the end of your manuscript, no matter how bleak the journey ahead looks. YOU GOT THIS!

By Lady Elizabeth What can I say about Erica's book that does not sound like I'm kissing her ass (LOL)This is one of the most funny books about writing that I've read and it's gear toward beginner which it's great. She manage to explain steps of the writting process in a way that it will not scare you away forever, and shared trick and tips that for a beginner trying it out for the first time or a seasonal writer looking for something different will end up being an amazing help.I'm not afraid to say that I wrote down some tips and tricks on my own writing journal from this and I will be reading them when I need it during my crazy writing times. For someone trying NaNoWriMo, this is one of those pep talks that you just have to have. I just wish Erica helself did and audio about her pep talks because they were out of this world funny. The one that stuck with me and I have it on post-its around my stuff is "I super believe in you!" ;)

By Kim Ummmmm...this book came up in my 'suggested reading' books and I liked the look of the title so anyway I looked at reviews and just had a feeling the reviews were genuine and bought it. And Uuuuuuum It's Amazing! Writing my book last 2 years ( don't count the years before those last two lol ) I have felt like a one-of-a-kind writer-creature as I am a Pantser who needs a basic plot. These labels have been talked about before but not in this way. Erica explains the writing styles_ ways you get your words onto the pages - ( and other things aswell ) in such a way that made me laugh...really laugh!- while reading. I'm over halfway through and now feel comforted and advised! I stopped writing my first draft 3 months ago as life got busy but then started editing, as I thought it would be a good time and less involving lol while I am busy! Erica reminded me this is a mistake - looking behind you, as in re-reading what you have written while editing, where monsters of self doubt, and criticism and the 5 stages of writer grief are waiting to make you miserable- is not a good idea! And yes, Erica, there is *nothing* wrong with hiding under my blankey so I can't see the monsters ( of my first draft ) while I fiiiiiiiinish it. I needed that reminder. I needed permission. It's like having a friend reading this book. 2:20 am and got to sleep now lol but I can't wait to read the rest and read it again - and finish my first draft! Thankyou for writing this Erica...from one Astronaut to another, you have been so helpful! Ok now I know I am returning the favour a little by writing a review when I am so grateful for this writer counseling I can go to bed!
