Point of view isn’t merely another writing craft technique. Point of view is the foundation upon which all other elements of the writing craft stand—or fall. It’s the opinions and judgments that color everything the reader believes about the world and the story. It’s the voice of the character that becomes as familiar to the reader as their own. It’s what makes the story real, believable, and honest. Yet, despite its importance, point-of-view errors are the most common problem for fiction writers. In Point of View in Fiction: A Busy Writer’s Guide, you’ll learn • the strengths and weaknesses of the four different points of view you can choose for your story (first person, second person, limited third person, and omniscient), • how to select the right point of view for your story, • how to maintain a consistent point of view throughout your story, • practical techniques for identifying and fixing head-hopping and other point-of-view errors, • the criteria to consider when choosing the viewpoint character for each individual scene or chapter, • and much more! Each book in the Busy Writer’s Guide series is intended to give you enough theory so that you can understand why things work and why they don’t, but also enough examples to see how that theory looks in practice. In addition, they provide tips and exercises to help you take it to the pages of your own story, with an editor’s-eye view. Most importantly, they cut the fluff so that you have more time to write and to live your life.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Advice on POV By Calgal This book from Marcy Kennedy is clear, concise and well written. While a number of other authors will dance around the topic and leave the reader more confused, Ms. Kennedy gives honest advice. She lets you know what works and what doesn't for particular POVs and why. I only wish this book had been available years ago.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I like the practical By Charlie The subject is covered very well, with a minimum of irrelevant data. I like the practical, down to earth way she gets right to how to incorporate these techniques into your own writing.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I Call this "Marcy's Purple Problem Solver" By Variety IS the Spice of Life AH! POV, how thou doth confound me!!!! I would not even call myself a "busy" writer, more a "driven" writer... whose hands are pushed along the keyboard at speeds perilous to proper spelling... by the Muse, in collusion with the characters who have taken over, running ahead of even my brain on the fourth mug of black organic freetrade coffee! What a MESS upon completion of a page, a chapter, the entire book. Marcy Kennedy is now at my left elbow at all writing times. I allow the Muse to push me until he shuts up or I can't keep up. Then I turn to the Purple Point of View "Printed Professor" as I think of it - and I check out what actually appeared on the pages... Any ambiguity is cleared before moving on... It's a FABULOUS resourse. I used to wait until I finished a chapter, or a bunch but often I'd lose that perfect thread-of-the-moment in "review mode." My critique group now thinks I "have that POV stuff down pat!" Nope, I've got Marcy's Purple Problem Solver... And highly recommend you get one too.
