About the Author Mitchell Sharmat, a graduate of Harvard University, has written numerous picture books, easy readers, and novels, and was a contributor to many textbook reading programs. He was best known for the classic Gregory, the Terrible Eater, which was a Reading Rainbow Feature Selection and a New York Times Critics’ Pick. In Mitchell’s honor, The Sharmat Collection displaying the books he wrote, was established at the Harvard Graduate School of Education by the Monroe C. Gutman Library. Renée Kurilla has illustrated many books for children, including Orangutanka: A Story in Poems written by Newbery Honor recipient, Margarita L’Engle. She can be found sketching away in a little house in the woods near Boston, MA. Renée illustrated the pages of Berkley, the Terrible Sleeper with her fluffy art director cat Timmy nearby, who inspired Berkley’s ever present mouse friend!

Berkley Charms from Beginning to End By George Buttner "Berkley the Terrible Sleeper" is another winning picture book from Mitchell Sharmat, with illustrations by Renne Kurilla, that is sure to become a favorite. I was immediately charmed by its cover illustration and found the story inside just as enchanted.The story features three bears who we're told straight off are not "those" three bears. These are instead Momma Bear, Poppa Bear and Berkley Bear. Berkley is a bear, but he's a lot like an average kid - funny, playful and energetic. These are charming qualities, but one trait of Berkley's worries his parents - he just can't seem to sleep through the night. This is a big problem because bears, of course, hibernate. They call the doctor and try everything they can, but come winter, Berkley still won't sleep. Readers will be charmed by how Berkley solves his own problem in the book's ending.Kurilla's illustrations are a perfect complement to the story - particularly Berkey himself. Also, similar to the Little Critter books, there's a mouse to be spotted on every page where Berkley himself also appears - one especially entertaining illustration shows the mouse taking a bath in the sink where Momma and Poppa are running water and bubbles to wash dishes.

Just a cute story but won't make child sleep alone By Terry Westlake I bought this book because my grandson's therapist advised it because my grandson has trouble going to sleep. However it doesn't encourage your child to sleep by themselves and really doesn't do anything to relieve their fears! it is a cute little story however
