Naiv. Super. is a story, naively yet poignantly imagined, about a young Norwegian man who suddenly finds himself in a crisis. To discover what's going on--and to rediscover himself--he drops out of his studies at the university, sells most of his belongings, and moves into his brother's unoccupied apartment. Through contemplation and play, he sorts through life's meanings, tries to gain perspective on the world, revisits his lost childhood, and becomes obsessed with the concept of time. After several weeks, he joins his brother for a vacation in New York City, where, with his brother's help, he finds how best to live life. The side-column glossary and Norwegian-to-English dictionary compiled exclusively for this book make this edition of Loe's original text ideal for language learners and lovers of Norway and Norwegian culture.

Nothing could have been kinder to my mind or soul - the simplicity of the writing minimized the number of times I had to refer to a dictionary, yes, but it also helped bring out the pure, simple truths that I got to discover along with the main character on his journey. Here you have this ordinary guy, experiencing ordinary life - trying to figure out just what that is about after something of a quarter-life crisis on his 25th birthday - but Loe manages to make his minimalized life poetic. It's the kind of book that gets you thinking a lot more about your own life. Just as being with a young child for a day helps you reappreciate the beauty of a ladybug or pleasure of mudpuddles, an afternoon with this book helps you reappreciate the task of finding (and remembering) yourself and your place in the world. It's a quick read, and extremely good company for anyone alone and/or feeling overwhelmed by their life.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Genuine By Christina Hennig This is a really fascinating book, because it's so simply sincere and sincerely simple. It's about life. Losing orientation, finding it again. And apart from that: It's funny. Thanks for that present, Inga!

We read it because we were going to put up a play in a festival and two of the boys had read it before. They thought it was the perfect book to put up as a play. The play didn't turn out half bad. I was one of the persons rewriting it into a play, and I have to say: It was a good book, but after re-reading it several times to see if we got the most important things into the play it became boring...
