About the Author A native of Barberton, Ohio, Karla Tipton earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kent State University. Tipton is currently a software tester. Her first novel, Rings of Passage, a time travel romance set in medieval England, features the historical figure King Richard III. As a member of the Richard III Society, Karla attended the re-burial ceremonies of the recently excavated remains of the king in Leicester, UK, in March 2015. Her second romantic fantasy, Dangerous Reflections, includes mystery, time travel, and the occult. Historical fantasy with a strong romantic element By Cara Bristol When American actress Anise Wynford discovers a magical ring forged by a great Welsh wizard, she is thrust back into the Middle Ages where she meets King Richard III of England. She's immediately plunged into the middle of political machinations between the Plantagenets and the Tudors, but what complicates her situation the most is that she falls in love with the king. Contrary to the way William Shakespeare painted him in the Tragedy of Richard III, he's a kind, gentle man of great conscience. And she knows he's doomed to die in battle in a few short months. Can she save him? Should she save him? If she can save him, how will it change history?Rings of Passage is a finely-drawn historical novel involving a mix of real and fictitious characters caught in a complex plot of political intrigue, tender romance and magic. Author Karla Tipton writes skillfully to blend the genres of history, time travel, romance and fantasy. The history portion is particularly well-researched and detailed. Excellent blend of medieval and paranormal By Read & Review Karla Tipton writes a fascinating time-travel featuring Richard III and a modern day woman.Anise meets and falls for the king shortly before the battle of Bosworth. All the major players of the day are featured. Lord Stanley, Margaret Beaufort, Henry Tudor, Lovell, etc.Accusations of witchcraft give authenticity to the paranormal twist and, with a rogue wizard on the loose, we are transported with Anise to a world on the brink of change. Will the course of history be altered or is Richard doomed to die in battle?As a fan of royal medieval tales I was suitably enthralled in the unfolding events. A recommended read for lovers of Richard III, paranormal, and romance stories.(I reviewed an ARC of this novel.)
12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. A Gotcha Read By Charmaine Coimbra I'm not a fantasy novel reader, nor a romance reader, but I do love a good historical novel. So, I didn't fully commit when I started reading Karla Tipton's "Rings of Passage." Before I knew it, this obviously well-researched tale, with good dialogue, well defined setting, and compelling characters did a GOTCHA move and I was hooked.I do love a good wizard in a story, like Merlin of King Arthur lit, so I didn't back off when Tipton took her wizardry writing wand and made me fear the power of this story's wizards and wizards in training.Tipton showcased King Richard's internal torture with his attraction to the story's heroine. She kept him in character.Well done by a first time novelist. Well done!I can't wait for Ms. Tipton's next read.
